The weirdest thing in the darkness of Finland, that outside the city, on the road there's no light at all. No villages, little lights in windows - only forests, and in the distance, like at peep of dawn, some odd stripe of light above towns. However, I like to travel in the dark (in this case it was early evening, but seemed like the depth of the night): you can imagine behind the pines and the beyond the shadow of the birches as many elf, goblin, troll and maybe elk as you want. :)
